Alright, buckle up, fellow Chinese anime enthusiasts, because 2025 is already shaping up to be a monumental year for donghua! I’ve been glued to my screen, devouring all the new releases, and let me tell you, the sheer variety and quality are blowing my mind. So, I thought I’d share my personal watchlist, highlighting some of the must-see Chinese donghua 2025 titles that are already making waves.
Now, before we dive in, a quick disclaimer: I’m focusing on series that have actually aired. I know we’re all itching for “Lord of Mysteries” and “Fairies Albums Season 5,” but those are still on the horizon. This list is all about what you can watch right now.
First up, we have “A Record of a Mortal’s Journey to Immortality Season 4” (Fanren Xiu Xian Chuan Di Si Ji). This series is a personal favorite, and seeing Han Li’s journey continue is always a treat. The animation by Original Force and Wonder Cat Animation is top-notch, and the story keeps me hooked. If you’re a fan of cultivation stories, this is a no-brainer.

Then there’s “Martial Universe Season 5” (Wu Dong Qiankun 5). Lin Dong is back, and his rapid cultivation growth is as exhilarating as ever. This series, adapted from Heavenly Silkworm Potato’s novel, delivers the classic xinxia experience we all crave. It’s a testament to the enduring appeal of these epic cultivation sagas.
For a change of pace, “The Legend of Princess Chang-Ge” (Chang Ge Xing) offers a compelling historical drama. The story of Princess Li Changge’s revenge is gripping, and BigBigSun studio’s animation brings the manhua to life beautifully. It’s a tale of resilience and determination that resonates deeply.
“Stellar Transformations Season 6” (Xingchen Bian 6) is another long-awaited return. Qin Yu’s journey in the God Realm is filled with challenges and triumphs, and the animation by Tencent Penguin Pictures and Yuewen Animation & Comics is consistently impressive. The focus on crafting and the pursuit of love adds a unique flavor to this cultivation series.
If you’re in the mood for romance, “Everything is Fine with the Emperor” (Junzi Wu Ji) is a delightful surprise. The premise of a prince who can see “immortals” is intriguing, and the dynamic between Liu Ling and Yao Ji is charming. Wonder Cat Animation and Bilibili have created a visually appealing and emotionally engaging series.
“Cat God” (Mao Xing Dongfang) stands out for its unique artistic approach. The diverse animation styles, including ink painting and stop motion, create a surreal and captivating world. It’s a refreshing departure from typical Chinese donghua fare, and I appreciate the focus on Eastern aesthetics.
For BL fans, “Rising in the Fire” (Xiang Huo Er Sheng) is a welcome addition. This fire-themed series tells a compelling story of firefighters, blending action, suspense, and heartwarming moments. It’s a fresh take on the genre, and studio HM Heros has done a fantastic job.
“The Ravages of Time 2” (Huo Feng Liao Yuan 2) delivers intense action and adventure. Set during the tumultuous end of the Eastern Han Dynasty, this series is a visual feast. LX Animation Studio, iDreamSky, and Bilibili have brought the manhua to life with stunning animation.
“Lord of Destiny” (Tianming Da Zhuzai), also known as “The Destiny Ruler“, introduces Li Wannian, a character with the unique ability to resurrect. The premise of gaining points for each resurrection is intriguing and leads to many comedic and action-filled moments. Bilibili and Ruo Hong Culture have created a fun and engaging series.
Finally, “Ne Zha: The Devil Boy in the Sea” (Nezha: Zhi Mo Tong Nao Hai) has taken the Chinese anime world by storm. Its incredible box office success speaks volumes about its quality. Studio Coco Cartoon has delivered a visually stunning and emotionally powerful film that stands alongside the best in animation.
These are just a few of the amazing Chinese donghua 2025 releases that have caught my attention. I’m excited to see what the rest of the year holds, and I encourage you to check out these series and discover your own favorites. Happy watching!
