As a die-hard donghua fan, I’ve been eagerly awaiting the day when Mutated Tao would get its own Chinese anime adaptation but for now, am glad that it is getting a manhua adaptation. And now, it’s finally happening! The news that Foxtail Quill’s beloved web novel Dao Gui Yi Xian is being transformed into a Chinese comic series has sent ripples of excitement through the community of donghua and manhua fans.
If you’re not familiar with manhua, it’s essentially the Chinese term for comics. Think of it as the Chinese equivalent of Japanese manga, with its own unique style and storytelling techniques. Along with donghua (Chinese animation), manhua has been gaining popularity worldwide, with titles like Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation, Heaven Official’s Blessing, The Daily Life of the Immortal King, and The King’s Avatar captivating audiences with their stunning visuals and compelling narratives.
Chinese Manhua “Mutated Tao”: A Donghua Fan’s Dream Come True
Mutated Tao, originally titled Dao Gui Yi Xian, is a dark fantasy web novel that has captivated readers with its intricate world-building, complex characters, and thrilling plot. The story follows Li Huowang, a young man who finds himself trapped between a hospital and a fantastical realm filled with bizarre cultivators and eldritch horrors. As Li Huowang navigates this strange new world, he must unravel the mysteries surrounding his existence and fight for survival.
For donghua fans, Mutated Tao is a dream come true. The novel’s rich mythology and atmospheric setting make it a perfect candidate for a manhua and donghua adaptation. With its blend of action, horror, and mystery, Mutated Tao has all the elements that make for a captivating and thrilling viewing experience.
While we’re still waiting for more details about the manhua adaptation, I can’t help but compare it to another highly anticipated Chinese novel turned donghua: Lord of Mysteries. Both series share a similar dark fantasy setting and a focus on supernatural powers and mysteries. However, Mutated Tao offers a more unique and unconventional take on the genre, with its emphasis on horror and psychological elements.
Release Date
Meanwhile, according to the latest announcement, a rather surprising one, Mutated Tao, or also known as the Dao of the Bizarre Immortal is scheduled for release on November 23, 2024.
I believe that Mutated Tao has the potential to become a major hit in the donghua world. Its captivating story, combined with the high production values of a manhua adaptation, could make it a must-read for fans of Chinese animation and comics.
