Spring 2024 was a wild ride for anime fans! We were bombarded with new seasons of beloved classics, surprising newcomers, and hidden gems waiting to be discovered. Picking just four favorites felt like an impossible task, but after much deliberation, here’s my personal top picks!
My Top 4 Anime of the Spring 2024 Season – A Short Review
#1: Bartender: Glass of God
Okay, hold on, hear me out! My champion of Spring 2024 isn’t the high-octane action show you might expect. It’s Bartender: Glass of God, and yes, you read that right. Don’t underestimate the power of a good story, even when it’s served neat in a dimly lit bar.
This show is a hidden masterpiece, overflowing with heartwarming tales and genuine storytelling. You might think the premise – a charismatic bartender crafting cocktails for patrons with unique stories – sounds simple. But trust me, it’s captivating. Bartender: Glass of God is a perfectly mixed cocktail in itself. Gorgeous visuals and animation draw you in, and then each episode delivers a heartwarming story with a surprising kick. It might seem light on the surface, but beneath the calm exterior lies a depth of life lessons waiting to be savored. It’s undeniably underrated, and I can’t recommend it enough.
This pick might surprise some, but sometimes the quietest stories leave the most lasting impact.
#2: Kaiju No. 8
The fight for the top spot was fierce, but Kaiju No. 8 claws its way into a well-deserved second place! This show is a masterclass in execution. It takes a familiar plot – a regular guy working as a cleaning crew who suddenly becomes a monster-slaying badass – and elevates it to new heights. Top-notch humor keeps you laughing out loud, fantastic animation stuns on screen, and the drama packs an emotional punch.
You’ll be completely invested in the characters and their struggles, one minute doubled over with laughter at their hilarious antics (remember those golden scenes from episode 1!), the next tearing up at the emotional rollercoaster. Kaiju No. 8 proves that even common stories can shine with beautiful storytelling and side-splitting humor. Plus, the emotional moments? Oh man, prepare for the feels. This show truly delivers on all fronts.
#3: That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime Season 3
Let’s be honest, the boardroom meetings in That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime Season 3 are…legendary. But that’s just a tiny part of what makes this anime so compelling. It doesn’t rely solely on flashy fight scenes (though when they do happen, they’re incredible!).
Instead, it weaves a captivating narrative with fantastic storytelling, drama, and hilarious comedy. Heartwarming moments and incredible world-building add depth and keep you hooked. Plus, the conspiracy plot unfolding? It’s actually pretty darn good!
But the true gem of Tensura (as the fans affectionately call it) is the CHARACTERS! They’re the ones who steal the show and capture your heart every single episode. Rimuru’s journey of leadership, Milim’s chaotic charm, and the quirky cast of Tempest all contribute to an unforgettable experience.
#4: Demon Slayer Season 4: To the Hashira Training Arc
Spring 2024 was a battle royale for anime supremacy, and let me tell you, Demon Slayer put up a good fight! Picking a Top 4 list meant some tough choices.
Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – To the Hashira Training Arc takes the fourth spot. Make no mistake, ufotable’s animation deserves its own award. The fights were epic, the music was fire, and the emotions were raw. But for me, this season felt like the prelude to something bigger, the delicious appetizer before the main course. We’re treated to incredible character development for the Hashira (elite demon slayers), and the emotional weight of Tanjiro’s journey intensifies. However, it’s clear that this season is setting the stage for even more epic battles and heart-wrenching moments to come.
Honorable Mention:
Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation Season 2 deserves a special shout-out! The animation and story absolutely floored me. The world-building is incredible, and even some of the characters feel refreshingly real. Let’s be honest, Rudy’s morals are…questionable at times. But hey, who doesn’t have flaws, right? While he may not be my favorite character (yet!), you gotta respect the growth he goes through. Overall, Mushoku Tensei is a wild ride with amazing drama, action, and all the fantasy an isekai fan could ask for! The magic system is intricate and engaging, the battles are thrilling to watch, and the world feels expansive and alive.
However, some viewers might find the pacing a bit slow at times, especially compared to the first season. Also, as you mentioned, Rudy’s perverted tendencies can be off-putting for some. But if you can look past those aspects, Mushoku Tensei offers a rewarding experience with complex characters, a rich world, and a compelling story of redemption.
So, what did you guys think of the Spring 2024 anime season? Did any of these shows make your top list? Let’s discuss in the comments below!
